Different Punctutation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Different Punctutation - Essay Example Because both are historically rich, each of these occasions has developed its own symbols as a way of representing what the celebration is about. Halloween is generally associated with the occult and other mythical characters. Hence we see pumpkins or ghoul figures to commemorate the souls which are believed to be walking among the living on this special day. Christmas symbols, on the other hand, reflects images of universal feelings of positivity. Thus, we see images of Santa Claus to signify abundance and giving or the seasonââ¬â¢s favorite decoration, the mistletoe, to affect and spread good luck among family members. But the symbols for both holidays encapsulate in them a general sense of festivity. Halloween has always been associated as the festival of the dead. Hence, major activities during this season always include watching of horror movies, going to haunted attractions, reliving of folklores or scary urban legends, dressing up in extravagant costumes, and of course tric k or treating in the neighborhood. There are parties and programs organized practically here and there which obviously invite a large number of crowds. Parades of costumes, both contemporary and out of this world could also be witnessed.

Physician-Patient Communication Changed by Electronic Mail Exchange Annotated Bibliography
Physician-Patient Communication Changed by Electronic Mail Exchange - Annotated Bibliography Example It was estimated in 2004 than 64% of physicianââ¬â¢s use email in their communications with staff, patients, colleagues and third-party payers. This study found that patients are often frustrated and upset with the difficulty they encounter when trying to reach a physician by telephone hence the increase in patients requesting physicians to use email as a communication method. Benefits for physicians allow them to respond at any time and at their convenience while also allowing templates to be provided that respond to certain questions regarding care. Patient Gateway was used as a pilot program in certain ambulatory clinics. Results indicated that physicians felt the program was a positive though limitations of the study were that physicians were not yet using direct general messaging and the sample size was relatively small. The majority of the European populations use the internet for health reasons; only 10% communicate with their physician this way. Two distinct suppliers of internet secure patient communication systems supplied a list of those offices that were currently using their system and of those offices 9 participated in this study.
Air pollution Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Air pollution - Research Paper Example Currently, automobiles are the largest contributor to the formation of groundà level ozone therefore there is a need to increase usage of alternative sources of transportation in order to reduce levels of O3 air pollution. Air pollution has become a major environmental health problem affecting both developed and developing countries throughout the world (Nadakavukaren, 2006). The consequence has been that air pollution is causing human health problems as well as damage to vegetation, crops, wildlife, materials, buildings and even the climate. In the U.S., the largest sources of air pollution, in order of importance, are: 1) transportation, mainly automobiles and trucks; 2) electric power plants that bum coal or oil; and 3) industry, for which the major sources include steel mills, metal smelters, oil refineries, and paper mills (Nadakavukaren, 2006). The most common air pollution problem resulting from these emission sources is ground-level ozone (O3), According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), non-attainment of EPA requirements for O3 is the most common air pollution problem facing large cities in the U.S (Crpc-La.org, 2011). It is estimated that, 160 million people in the U.S. lived in areas that are in non-attainment of healthful O3 levels (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development [OECD], 2005). In the past, efforts to reduce air pollution have consisted primarily of "command and control" programs that involve enforcement of government regulations designed to reduce toxic emissions. Such programs have proven highly effective in reducing industrial, point source pollution and causing auto manufacturers to produce cleaner burning automobiles (Environmental Protection Agency [EPA], 2011a). While these government controls continue to effectively lower industrial emissions and reduce pollutants emitted from vehicles, O3 precursor, NOx, continues to be emitted into the air at increasing levels. Evaluate the purpose and practice of Alternative Dispute Resolution Essay
Evaluate the purpose and practice of Alternative Dispute Resolution and discuss how successful A.D.R has been within the English Legal System - Essay Example escribes, ADR is attracting a wide range of sponsors, making it appear that it has the support of almost everyone.1 Judges in England are increasingly seeing ADR as a way to ease their caseloads. Government is attracted to ADR as a fruitful area for its own professional practice. This diversity of interests and motivations needs to be kept centrally in mind in any assessment or evaluation of ADR procedures and their place in civil justice. Roberts distinguishes what he calls three "lives" of ADR, in the sense that the label has become attached to areas of practice in three significantly different locations: In this third "life," ADR is incorporated as part of the judicial repertoire of dispute management techniques, and it is this third "life" that is of primary concern here. In approximately the last twenty years, the U.K., like the U.S., has seen a growing number of moves to institutionalize "alternatives" to litigation, albeit on a much smaller scale.3 Important examples include the growth of mediation in family, commercial, and employment disputes.4 A range of organizations and bodies have become established that offer mediation and other forms of ADR. Examples are the Centre for Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and International Dispute Resolution (IDR) in Europe, which offer a range of ADR methods in commercial disputes, divorce cases, medical negligence claims, and other forms of dispute. Thus far, however, the volume of work remains small. Lawyers have become increasingly active in ADR initiatives in England. A number of major reports has been sponsored by the legal professions disciplinary bodies--the Law Society and the General Council of the Bar.5 The Lord Chancellors Department has set up a major review of civil court procedure by Lord Woolf, one of our House of Lords judges, with a view primarily to cutting the cost of the civil justice system. ADR and civil procedure are increasingly seen as interwoven amongst academics. They were discussed together at the

Managing Across Organizational & Cultural Boundaries Essay
Managing Across Organizational & Cultural Boundaries - Essay Example One of the perspectives of power that Wal-Mart will use in dealing with the suppliers is the use of zero tolerance where all undesirable practices like subcontracting will be imposed to severe penalties without the company knowledge (Fishman, 2006). The penalties will start to be effective on March again all the companies that are not allowed to manufacture and supply clothes to Wal-Mart will be published on the website explaining that the company is not genuine. The second perspective is accountability and ownership of the supplier who must be certified to make sure that they are going to be accountable of what they are going to supply to Wal-Mart (Stern, 1969). The reason why Wal-Mart need accountability and ownership to a specific country is to ensure that compliance will be achieved making sure that third party agents are eliminated in the supply chain. Wal-Mart is open to any supplier who can supply clothing without subcontracting or use of third party agents who normally supply brands at expensive price as compared to those companies that are ordered to supply brands to Wal-Mart. Another perspective of power that Wal-Mart will consider is improved safety in the factories, for example, the suppliers from United States and Canada will have to meet so that the new policy change of improved safety can be deliberated upon (Buzzell, 1987). The local governments and suppliers will have to carry the safety precaution and measures need to boost factory safety. The reason is because employees in the factories are experiencing death that emanate from poor conditions from the factories and thus the reason as to why Wal-Mart is restricting the suppliers from subcontracting their orders. The expectation of Wal-Mart is that the known factory that have been given the orders will be the only one who will supply brands without involving third party agents who do not provide high quality clothing and within the stipulated time. One of the sources of power in Wal-Mart

A world of Ideas - Essay Example Early on, one was oriented to assume an open-minded orientation to embrace other people from various cultural orientations. The support for pursing greater knowledge and awareness on diverse cultures, races, and ethnic backgrounds have made me acceptable of cultural diversity and enhanced oneââ¬â¢s ability to be receptive, flexible, adaptable, and easy to adjust to the changing demands of the times. I firmly believe that despite exhibiting consistencies in oneââ¬â¢s conformity to retain cultural traditions and beliefs, I am open to accept living in new cultures anywhere in the world. As such, I do not feel alienated or pressured to live in a new culture as an outsider. I can live with people from different cultures anytime. However, this does not mean that I completely lose my cultural underpinnings. I still retain the traditional values and beliefs that have been ingrained since oneââ¬â¢s childhood. But, while living in a new culture, I get to adapt and adjust to those that could be accommodated, without compromising personal values and philosophies in

Corporate Social Responsibility Policies, Including Business Ethics Essay
Corporate Social Responsibility Policies, Including Business Ethics and Impact on Business Practice and Key Stakeholders - Essay Example In this part of the paper, a stakeholder mapping analysis is performed to assess the key influences in Nestlà © in the area of corporate social responsibility. Schmeer (2001) identified planning as the initial phase of stakeholder mapping. In the planning phase, the purpose of the stakeholder mapping analysis is defined. It is also in this stage where the beneficiaries of the results of the stakeholder mapping exercise are identified. In this paper, the goal of stakeholder mapping analysis is to offer guidance with respect to a participatory, consensus-building process, with respect to corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives of Nestlà ©. Obviously, information derived from the analysis will be utilized in the brainstorming and formulation of Nestlà © CSR schemes for the benefit of society. The policy selected for analysis focused on Nestlà ©Ã¢â¬â¢s CSR projects supporting coffee and cocoa farmers in selected locations worldwide as part of the Millennium Development Goals to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. The proposed policy selected for the analysis was the possibility of extending the project to third world countries in Asia who produce coffee and/or cocoa, or possibly other products. The aforementioned policy was chosen based on three criteria as recommended in Schmeer (2001): (1) the policy is specific and definable; (2) the policy is socially and politically controversial, considering the peace and order situation in the country being considered as beneficiary of the CSR project; and (3) the policy may be a key to current reform efforts and significant enough to justify the deployment of resources. Selman (2006) suggested the preparation of a long list of possible stakeholders, as comprehensive and feasible. As a general rule, nomination of stakeholders for inclusion in the long list should consider those who will be affected by, or will
